COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A man plowing snow for District 20 died in a crash Tuesday morning.
State Patrol tells 11 News the driver was going too fast for conditions and slid across the road while heading west on Gleneagle Drive near Candlewood Court. The truck ended up in a deep culvert. The force of the impact sent equipment flying through the back window, which hit the driver.
Colorado State Patrol identified the driver as 27-year-old Stephen Houston of Colorado Springs. Houston was taken to Penrose Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at about 1 p.m.
A spokesperson for the school district says Houston was on his way to plow The da Vinci Academy when he crashed.
"It is with a heavy heart I share a member of the Academy District 20 (ASD20) family passed away today. Stephen Houston, grounds technician, was involved in a car accident earlier this morning. Stephen was on duty and driving his snowplow to ensure our school grounds were safe for students and staff," D-20 Director of Communications Allison Cortez wrote. "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Stephen was a much-loved member of our facilities team. We ask that you please keep the Houston family in your hearts and thoughts during this difficult time."
