MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Stage 1 Fire restrictions have been lifted for the City of Manitou Springs, effective as of noon Friday.

According to city officials, discussions with members of the Pikes Peak Region Wildfire Preparedness Group led to the conclusion that, at this time, current conditions do not warrant prolonged heightened wildfire awareness.

While Stage 1 restrictions have been lifted, the city is reminding the public to continue practicing safe fire practices, including ensuring that any fires are completely extinguished, using grills and fire pits responsibly, and remembering that restrictions can quickly change based on weather conditions.

While community members are allowed to smoke along Manitou Avenue, city officials said discarding lit cigarettes outdoors outside of city-approved receptacles and smoking organic burning matter in city parks and trails is illegal.
