Pikes Peak Library District partners with immigration services to hold naturalization ceremony
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - More than two dozen people officially became US citizens on Friday during a naturalization ceremony at Library 21C in Colorado Springs.
The Pikes Peak Library District partnered with US Citizenship and Immigrations Services on Friday to host the ceremony, where applicants took the oath of allegiance and completed the final step in their naturalization process.
One of those was Faith Aguirre, who moved to the United States from the Philippines nearly a decade ago.
Aguirre said the journey was long, but having her mother by her side made the moment even more meaningful.
“It means everything to me. After like a long journey, because I came from the Philippines,” Aguirre said. “And I want to make my parents proud, of course.”
“I’m so happy and I’m so proud of her after struggling in this moment,” Faith’s mother, Jessica Aguirre, said.
Pikes Peak Library District said it typically hosts two naturalization ceremonies each year and offers citizenship study groups for the community.
