Colorado Springs police make arrests tied to 2 child homicide investigations from 2022
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police in Colorado Springs made arrests on Friday related to two child homicide investigations that began in 2022.
Two women were arrested related to the deaths of their children back in November 2022. The two cases are unrelated, other than the fact both women were arrested on the same day for similar charges, and their arrests were both announced by police on Monday.
The first investigation began on November 16, 2022, when police responded to a call near Costilla Street and South 8th Street for an unresponsive 14-month-old child. According to officials, despite life-saving measures, the child was deceased at the residence. The coroner ruled the child’s death a homicide in January 2023, and police said detectives conducted an “exhaustive investigation”, including the preparation of several search warrants and reviewing medical records, in the following months.
An arrest warrant was issued for the child’s mother, Amber Comstock (32), on Thursday on charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death, and she was taken into custody Friday. Comtock’s booking photo is at the top of this article on the left.
The second investigation began when CSPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit was made aware of a deceased four-year-old child on November 30, 2022. According to officials, the child had been transported to a local hospital by their mother and her boyfriend after being found unresponsive at their residence. The coroner ruled the child’s death a homicide in March 2023, and police said detectives conducted yet another “exhaustive investigation,” including preparation of search warrants and conducting several interviews, in the following months.
An arrest warrant was issued for the child’s mother, Raven Rudd (25), on Friday on charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death. She was taken into custody that day. Rudd’s booking photo is at the top of this article on the right.
