One suspect dead, another detained after chase with southern Colorado law enforcement
CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - Law enforcement asked people to shelter in place in Cañon City Sunday after a chase that resulted in at least one death.
CCPD posted the information on social media. They said it began around 11 a.m. when Frecom communications got information from Pueblo that police were pursuing a vehicle that was occupied by a homicide suspect.
They said they were chasing them westbound on Highway 50 through Pueblo County. Eventually, the chase continued into Cañon City, according to police, where they said the suspect’s vehicle turned northbound, forcing Pueblo PD, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and CCPD chased them through a field.
That was at the 2800 block of Central Avenue. Police said the vehicle was disabled and two suspects fled on foot and were chased by police.
Police said one suspect was confronted by police and shots were fired, but they didn’t say by whom. A suspect died. So far, police have not confirmed whether the suspect was shot.
The other suspect was on the run. As of 6:20 p.m., CCPD reported that a man matching the suspect’s description was detained.
As of 6:24, police confirmed the suspect to be in custody and the shelter in place was lifted.
CCPD reported the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the search and investigation, as well as the Custer County Sheriff’s Office and Florence Police Department.
CCPD said CBI is investigating the suspect who was killed.
