Coroner IDs Colorado Springs woman who died days after head-on crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified a woman who died days after a crash in Colorado Springs as 77-year-old Deanna Stemler.

Around 8:14 p.m. on March 22, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to the intersection of Briargate Boulevard and Lexington Drive for a crash.

According to police, the initial report said that two vehicles were racing east on Briargate when they crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound Volkswagen head-on.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and three days later, police reported that the driver of the Volkswagen, Stemler, had died from her injuries.

At this time, police say speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash.

This was the 11th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year, compared to five by this time last year.
