COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Hundreds of families in southern Colorado now have toys for their children this Christmas.

Dozens of volunteers came together Saturday morning for the Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree Giveaway to ensure local families in need had gifts for their children.

The Salvation Army said they were able to serve at least 480 families during the event.

“I think it’s special, the people really appreciate it... a struggling parent who doesn’t have the means to go and do the extra at the holiday times,” Salvation Army Coordinator Stephen Ball said.

“Children see what’s happening around them in their schools and this and that. So for them to be part of it and just have the joy of that inspired gift is a very special thing for families.”

Following the 2024 Angel Tree event, several families told 11 News they either received the wrong gift or no gift at all for their children. The Salvation Army said they worked to ensure that did not happen at Saturday’s event.

“This year, we have an evolution of our system,” Ball said.

“It’s much more refined; we will not have some of the lag time we had last year in meeting... there’s an amazing group of people organizing all these toys in order, and so we’re really anticipating a smooth operation this year.”
