EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two teenagers were hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries, following a dirt bike crash in El Paso County on Monday night, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

CSP said they responded at around 5:40 p.m. to an abandoned golf course near Rolling Ridge Road, south of Marksheffel Road and Lorson Boulevard. Troopers said the teens, a 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy, were riding on the abandoned course when both of their bikes went up the same hill from different directions and became airborne. The 13-year-old’s bike ended up under the 14-year-old’s bike, and the 13-year-old was hit in the head with the back tire.

When the responding trooper arrived on scene, both teens were on the ground and separated from their bikes. CSP said both teens were wearing helmets.

The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, and the 13-year-old was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

CSP said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
