Flight lands at Denver safely following possible lightning strike

DENVER (KKTV) - A plane was able to land safely in Denver after possibly being struck by lightning mid-flight Sunday evening.
The incident happened during a cross-country flight from Tampa, Florida. A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines confirmed the plane was able to complete its journey, landing in Denver as scheduled but has since been taken out of service for inspection.
“On May 25, Flight 168 from Tampa International Airport to Denver International Airport sustained a possible lightning strike while inbound to DEN and landed safely,” said Southwest in a statement obtained by 11 News sister station CBS Denver. “Our maintenance teams took the aircraft out of service for inspection. There were no injuries.”
Southwest did not say when the strike occurred. The plane’s scheduled route would have taken it through a storm system over Louisiana and Texas.
