BUENA VISTA, Colo. (KKTV) - The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted on Friday by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement about a resident of Mexico who was potentially in the area.

ICE said the suspect 23-year-old Juan Jose Avila Hernandez was wanted on four felony counts out of Oklahoma for raping minors, according to the sheriff’s office. They believed Hernandez was working within the Chaffee County area.

The sheriff’s office said they followed ICE’s orders and successfully found Hernandez that same day in Buena Vista. They said he was arrested without incident and was taken to the Chaffee County Detention Facility, then released to ICE.

“Our deputies did a great job locating Hernandez so quickly and assuring he could not harm anyone in our community. Hernandez was listed as a sexually violent predator. As stated before, we will assist ICE when they are searching for undocumented immigrants that are wanted for violations of law other than just their legal status of being in the United States,” Chaffee County Sheriff Andy Rohrich said.
