COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A brand new apartment complex designed to help seniors with affordable housing in Colorado Springs opened on Wednesday.

The Silver Key Apartments are located at 1625 S. Murray Blvd, and Silver Key Senior Services held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening.

The apartments offer affordable housing for seniors over 62 years old, and 13 units are designed specifically for veterans. The apartments are located next to Silver Key’s main campus on South Murray Boulevard.

"We’re celebrating the ribbon cutting of our 50-unit affordable housing project that is owned and operated by Silver Key Senior Services," President and CEO of Silver Key Senior Services Jason DeaBueno said. “It is the second project that we have, and we’re just excited that people through the community have been such great supporters and we’re moving a dream to action today.”

The apartments offer ADA Adaptable kitchens and bathrooms, elevator access and easy access to supportive services at the main campus next door.

“One of the things I continue to hear is that so many older adults struggle with a place that affordable to live that they can call home, and so when I hear the stories of how people are appreciating this and feel like they can be part of a family, it’s a very humbling experience,” DeaBueno said.

As of Wednesday these apartments were officially available to lease for those making between 30 to 60 percent of the area median income.
