Premature baby with umbilical cord still attached found abandoned near trail, deputies say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas. (Gray News) - A newborn baby with her umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned in a blanket near a trail in Texas, authorities said.

On Saturday morning, deputies responded to a call after a passerby discovered the infant on the trail. When deputies arrived, they found the baby awake and breathing.

A deputy communicated over the radio that it appeared the baby had been born only a few hours earlier, KRIV reported.

The newborn baby was taken to a hospital where they said the baby was in good condition. Authorities noted a vehicle captured in a video at the scene may belong to the individuals who found the child.

Investigators are now seeking information regarding the circumstances of her abandonment and the identification of her parents.

Deputies commended the quick action of the good Samaritans who found the baby, likely saving the child’s life.
