Person falls asleep at the wheel, crashes into Colorado Springs IHOP

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Dreaming about pancakes? A driver crashed into the side of an IHOP after falling asleep at the wheel Wednesday morning.

Police tell 11 News the car was in a parking spot outside the restaurant when the driver dozed off and inadvertently hit the gas, slamming the car into the building. Our reporter on scene says there appears to be minor damage to both the building and the vehicle.

Officers detained the driver afterward, telling 11 News it was “for other reasons” than the crash. They did not elaborate further.

The incident was reported at the IHOP at the corner of Chestnut and Fillmore just after 6 a.m. According to IHOP’s website, that location opens right at 6 a.m., so employees and customers would have been present at the time. Police say there were no injuries to anyone inside or to the driver.
