The store made headlines

when it announced a boycott on Nike products in the wake of Nike's Colin Kaepernick campaign, and before that

by former Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall following his decision to take a knee during the national anthem in 2016.

The owner told 11 News there are a few reasons he decided to close the store down after 21 years, one being the Nike boycott.

"Being a sports store and not having NIke jerseys is kind of like being a milk store without milk or a gas station without gas. They have a virtual monopoly on jerseys. There is no other option," Martin said.

"We had a really good Christmas season … but it’s caught up to me.”

Martin says if he wants to be remembered for anything, it would be his wall of military heroes he kept on the outside of his store.
