PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A southern Colorado man has been found guilty in a shooting that injured a young girl in 2024.

The Pueblo County District Attorney’s Office said that Michael Santistevan is convicted of two counts of assault and four counts of attempted assault as a habitual offender after authorities said he fired at a family’s vehicle on July 7, 2024.

Investigators said a 10-year-old girl was shot in the back.

They said she was in a neighborhood near Troy Avenue and Constitution Road looking for a stolen bike with her father and sister.

According to the DA, the father believed he had spotted the stolen bike outside of an apartment owned by Santistevan. After realizing that was not her bicycle, officials said they began to drive away.

As the family was driving off, police said Santistevan fired at their vehicle multiple times, striking the girl once in the back.

His sentencing is scheduled for December 22.
