COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - For the second straight season the Broncos have started the year 1-2.

A big reason for that is not being able to close out games in each of their last two weeks at the Colts and at the Chargers, the Broncos had 4th quarter leads but failed to close the game, something they have to do against Cincinnati.

“We talked yesterday, and coach VJ nailed it man. Just being exact and everything that we do in that type of game, we couldn’t afford really to have them type of mental errors or not being in the right leverage and spots ore rushing the right way against a good team. If we are leading by a point to start the game it’s on us to win that game,” said Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto.

Another key factor in the Broncos not being able to close out games is the penalties. Eight penalties for 83 against the Colts, nine penalties for 90 yards against the Chargers. Something Denver has to clean up on Monday.

“As a team, we have a lot of penalties, a lot of unnecessary penalties that we got to fix. We can clean up. It’s not really so much of not playing hard. It’s just kind of the small things, little mental areas like before the snap count and those are the things that we can clean up.Games slipped away from us by beating ourselves,” said OLB Jonathon Cooper.

Now the Broncos will take on a Bengals team that will be without quarterback Joe Burrow. Last week with back up Jake Browning they got destroyed in Minnesota. Denver needs to focus on themselves, play a complete game, and limit the penalties.
