Suspect dead, officer-involved shooting under investigation following standoff in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A suspect is dead and an officer-involved shooting investigation is underway following a standoff in a Pueblo neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

A shelter-in-place was ordered for residents in the area of Valley Drive and South Drive, west of I-25 and Highway 50, as they respond to a barricaded suspect.

According to Pueblo police, they received multiple reported shots fired calls around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials said the suspect ran into a residence which was then surrounded by police.

As of 2:55 p.m., police reported there was an active standoff in the area as they work to find out what happened and contact a barricaded suspect.

Police sent residents a reverse 911 alert to avoid the area or shelter in place.

Police said during the standoff, the suspect fired at officers about two or three times, and at least one officer returned fire.

Law enforcement later went into the residence and found the suspect dead.

As of this article’s last update, the manner of the suspects death was unclear, and it was unknown just how many officers were involved. The identity of the suspect also had not been made public as of Tuesday evening.
