Deadly officer-involved shooting under investigation in Pueblo, suspect identified

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A carjacking suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Pueblo Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Pueblo Police say they responded to a carjacking call around 2:11 p.m. They say officers found the vehicle and there was a brief pursuit. Police say the suspects wrecked the vehicle into a fence and ran from the scene.

Police say one of those suspects was caught, but the other suspect had a gun. They say shots were fired and the suspect was killed. No officers were injured in the shooting. That happened near the 100 block of Broadway Avenue.

The investigation is in the early stages. Police say the officers involved will be on paid administrative leave.

The suspect who died was identified as 23-year-old Jerome Avalos, according to the Pueblo County Coroner.
