A hiker was airlifted out of Ute Valley Park after she was bitten by a snake late Monday morning.

The woman was in the northwest Springs park around 11:30 when she encountered the snake. A fellow hiker jumped in to help after seeing the woman in trouble and applied a tourniquet while waiting for further help to arrive.

First responders say the woman was taken to Penrose Hospital for anti-venom. Because it's not known what kind of snake bit her, it's unknown how she will respond to the anti-venom.

The public was asked to avoid the park during the rescue. As of 1:15 p.m., access to the park has resumed.

This is a developing story, and we will update as we learn more.
