Woman Killed In Two-Car Collision On Highway 285

A 20-year-old was killed Friday after she was thrown from her vehicle during a crash.

The fatal collision, involving two cars, happened at 10:25 a.m. Friday on Highway 285 outside Villa Grove, which is south of Salida.

According to State Patrol, 68-year-old Mary Hanson of Mesa, Ariz. veered into the opposite lane and crashed into an Audi station wagon. The force of impact split the Audi in two.

The 20-year-old victim, who was a passenger in the station wagon, died on scene after being ejected. The station wagon's driver was transported to a hospital in Salida with life-threatening injuries, then later flown to Penrose in Colorado Springs. A second passenger was also airlifted to Penrose in unknown condition. A third passenger in the Audi sustained moderate injuries and was released from the hospital in Salida Friday.

Hanson sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The crash shut down Highway 285 for several hours Friday.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation, but State Patrol does not suspect alcohol or speed as playing a factor.

The victim's name has not been released.
