Firefighters worked to save a dachshund's life after she was caught in a burning building Thursday morning.

A Pueblo Fire Department spokesperson tells 11 News no people were in the home on the 2800 block of E. 13th St. when a fire started just before 6:30 a.m., but several dogs were found inside.

Using an oxygen mask custom-fit for animals, firefighters were able to save the dachshund. PFD tweeted a photo of two firefighters gently administering oxygen to the frightened pup.

At least one dog did die from smoke inhalation. It's unknown at this time if the dachshund is the only survivor, or if any other dogs lived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
