Arrest Papers: Suspect In Deadly DUI Admitted To Drinking

Arrest papers say the driver accused in a deadly DUI crash had a blood alcohol level of 0.133 and admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel.

KKTV's partners at The Gazette obtained the arrest papers.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Andrew Shada, 22, was walking on the 4600 block of El Camino Drive in Colorado Springs when he was hit. He died at the scene.

Police say they believe the driver, 21-year-old John Marvel, was drag racing. He reportedly ran off the road when he didn't make a turn.

Ameen Dabit, who is in a relationship with Shada's sister, told The Gazette that Marvel's car ended up between their garage and front door.

"There's no way," Dabit said when asked if he thought Shada was near the road when he was hit.

Marvel faces charges of DUI, vehicular homicide and several traffic-related charges.

The other vehicle allegedly involved in the racing has been located but none of the occupants have been arrested or cited at this time.
