A 77-year-old man was killed after a fire started in his apartment Tuesday morning.
Firefighters pulled the victim out of his home and transported him to an area hospital, but he was pronounced dead after arriving. He has been identified as George Reed, according to the Canon City Daily Record.
The fire started just before 10 a.m. at the Canon Club Apartments in Canon City, a four-story building. Smoke spread through the building, but firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the one unit.
Nineteen residents were evacuated, but were allowed back in the building later Tuesday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
