Update (4/22): We're learning more about the death of a baby in southern Colorado.

Branden Harms, 28, is behind bars accused of killing a four month old girl in Fountain. He is facing charges of first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

Harms was in court Friday for an arraignment.

Fountain Police tell 11 News Harms was the only one babysitting the girl Monday night. Harms is the boyfriend of the child's mother.

When the mother came home Monday night, she immediately noticed her baby needed medical attention, according to police. She was taken to Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Children's Hospital.

The baby died the next day.

Police say Harms has been in the child's life since she was born and has watched her on several occasions.

Police tell 11 News they are still investigating what happened, but they said it may have involved a basinet.

"There's evidence involving a baby carriage and just a few items at the scene," said Sgt. Mark Cristiani, with Fountain Police. "However, there was nothing really at the scene that would indicate what happened there."

Police said it doesn't look like drugs or alcohol were involved. They also say it appears the injuries happened that evening.

They said it's hard to see something like this happen in Fountain.

“It’s a small community, very family-oriented, our police department is very family-oriented." said Sgt. Cristiani. "And we take it to heart when something like this happens because it doesn’t happen in Fountain.”

"We have a job to do and that’s to bring a resolution to the family, to the mom and for the child," Sgt. Cristiani added.

Harms is being held on no bond. He will be back in court in May. We'll let you know what happens.
