Former Band Coach Sentenced For Sexual Exploitation Of Child

A former band coach was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years supervised probation for sexual exploitation of a child, according to our partners at the Gazette.

David Hurd, 39, pleaded guilty in September to one count of sexual exploitation of a child. He had faced 46 charges of sexual exploitation and obscenity.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says they started investigating Hurd in February and arrested him in April. Hurd was a contract marching band choreographer at Air Academy and Liberty high schools in District 20 at the time of his arrest.

Court papers obtained by 11 News in April said Hurd and a student would text naked pictures to each other. Detectives reportedly found conversations between the two talking about hugging and kissing in Hurd's car in the parking lot at the school.

The student told authorities that she and Hurd said "I love you" to each other and had a countdown to her graduation date.
