Firefighters Battling Fire Take Cover Because Of Flying Bullets

Firefighters had to stop fighting a grass fire for a short time because of illegal shooting in the area.

The grass fire started Monday afternoon near Pikes Peak International Raceway south of Fountain.

The Hanover Fire Department tells us the fire may have been caused by the shooting. This is the second fire in that same area in a week.

While firefighters were putting out the fire, people were still firing their guns and a live round landed pretty close to them. Once they realized people were still shooting rounds, the firefighters took cover until deputies got there.

The fire grew to several acres, but was quickly controlled.
