REPORTS TO: News Director
Produce, plan and manage news broadcast from start to finish.
Producer must be able to produce solid, accurate, informative news stories in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Producer must be able to manage the TV news broadcast, coordinate with the production team, oversee the order of the news broadcast so that a cohesive news program is produced, insure on time production within budget, monitor the news broadcast to insure quality programing and resolve any problems that may arise. The producer works with the “news team” to decide on what stories to produce and report. They work in the newsroom, at the station, gathering stories from the news reporters. The producer also works closely with the news anchors to produce and execute clear information and/or news stories to the viewer. Must be able to follow established style guidelines as set by the news director. Producer is also expected to contribute content to KKTV.com and other associated digital products.
OTHER DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The producer is expected to contribute story ideas and content on a daily basis as well as special assignments and long-range planning. As a producer you may be asked to assist other producers as well as fill in on all news broadcasts.
The producer must be able to lead the newscast meeting and must be able to quickly recognize and organize stories for the upcoming news broadcast. The producer is expected to contribute stories and story ideas on a daily basis during the news meetings, assign stories, review and edit stories and approve stories for broadcast submitted by news reporters.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
To be successful in this position you must have a high level of production knowledge and experience. Extreme attention to detail and solid news judgment is a must. A successful candidate has knowledge of the various news gathering tools and libel laws. They must understand the importance of writing crisp teases to promote upcoming news broadcasts and stories as well as create electronic graphics in a professional and timely manner.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
The producer position is not an entry level position. Applicable college degree is required. However, experience may be substituted at the employer’s discretion. Two years producing experience preferred but experience as a news reporter, assignment editor or other applicable journalism experience may be accepted.
Prefer one (1) year experience as a producer at a broadcast station.

Newsroom setting using computer system and broadcast edit equipment.

Fast-paced environment and extensive work at a computer terminal.
