ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The Colorado State University-Pueblo indoor track and field programs competed at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegiate Invitational Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, which was hosted by University of New Mexico.
Senior Devundrick Walker (Aurora, Colo.) produced an NCAA Division II provisional time in the 800m run with his time of 1:53.33, which placed third. The time converted to 1:52.70 to sit 12th in NCAA Division II.
Tatianna Clanton (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded a NCAA provisional mark in the long jump, as she finished second in her heat and fifth overall among 31 individuals. Her top jump went for 5.77m (18' 11.25").
Friday, Thomas Staines (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) ran the 600m dash and finished second overall with a time of 1:16.38. He lost to Isaiah Jewett of University of Southern California, who crossed the finish line in 1:15.95. Staines' time is the second fastest among all divisions this season and was 1.37 seconds off a world record.
The women grabbed a handful of top 10 finishes and produced some personal bests along the way.
Jenna McKinley (Jr., Mosca, Colo.) was fifth overall in the shot put with a top throw of 13.58m (44' 6.75"), which was a personal best. Her throw was just 0.03m off a provisional mark. McKinley produced another personal best, this time in the weight throw, with a top toss of 14.92m (48' 11. 5"), which was fifth in her flight and 14th overall.
Sophomore Nicole Bouma (Kalispell, Mont.) ran to a section win and was fifth overall in the mile with a time of 5:16.37, good for a personal best.
Yasmine Hernandez (So., Johnstown, Colo.) ran the 600m run Friday and was second in her flight with a final placing of eighth with a time of 1:34.68.
The group of Lauren Fairchild (Jr., McKinney, Texas), Hailey Streff (So., Madison, S.D.), Hernandez and Clanton posted a 4x400m time of 3:53.80 to place eighth overall among 19 squads.
The Pack men gathered a few more top five finishes.
RJ Ramirez (So., Henderson, Colo.) placed fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.05.
Horne, Patrick Scoggins (Fr., Rangely, Colo.), Walker and Staines combined for a 4x400m relay time of 3:20.17 to finish fourth.
Freshman Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont.) was fourth in the shot put with his top toss of 15.19m (49' 10").
Senior Shawn Horne (Camp Casey, South Korea) ran to a section win and a fifth place finish overall in the 400m dash with a time of 49.45.
Next up for the Pack is the Mines Division II Invite and Multi Jan. 25-26 in Golden, Colorado.
