Colorado Springs, COLORADO The Rocky Mountain Vibes were swept by Ogden Wednesday afternoon, dropping game two of the two-game series 12-5. This marked the Vibes’ second time being swept at home this homestand.
The Vibes home woes continued Wednesday afternoon, with the Raptors hitting a grand slam in the top of the first inning to go up 4-0 early. Sam McWilliams and Justin Yurchak led off with back-to-back singles, Joe Vranesh drew a one-out walk to load the bases, and Brandon Wulff hit one deep to center for his first home run of the year to give Ogden the early advantage.
In the top of the third inning, Andy Pages wrapped a ball around the left field pole with a solo shot to extend Ogden’s lead to five runs. The Raptors went on to score again in the frame to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the third, Edwin Sanó singled, advancing to third on Antonio Piñero’s seventh double of the season. Bryan Torres then hit a two-RBI single to plate both and make it a four-run affair at 6-2.
In the next half-inning, however, Ogden scored again to make it 7-2. After a scoreless fifth inning, Ogden scored again in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-2. In the eighth, the Vibes walked in a run with the bases loaded full of Raptors to tack on another run to make it 9-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning the Vibes scored for the first time since the third inning. Torres and Bello hit back-to-back one-out singles to put two on for Ernesto Martinez Jr., who hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Torres from third to make it 9-3. Michael Wilson was then hit by pitch to put two on with two out for Luis Avalo, who hit a sharp RBI single to make it 9-4. Jess Williams followed suit with an RBI double to reduce Ogden’s lead to just four runs at 9-5.
In the top of the ninth inning the Raptors clubbed their third home run of the game—a three-run blast—to give Ogden a 12-5 lead over the Vibes. That would prove to be the final score for Wednesday’s contest as Ogden completed the two-game sweep.
