Orem, UTAH With one hitter delivering a laser show and pitchers lighting the scoreboard with zeros, the Vibes delivered a convincing 6-2 victory over Orem in the series finale Wednesday night. Shortstop Antonio Piñero went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, powering the Vibes’ 13-hit attack.
After allowing six runs Tuesday night, the Vibes bullpen rebounded in dominant fashion. Vibes relievers Cristían Sierra and Wuilder Rodriguez combined for six scoreless innings of work. Sierra followed starter Nick Bennett with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits or walks with four strikeouts in his second win of the season. Rodriguez sealed the victory, retiring the final 12 batters. Rodriguez left his stamp on the game: 4 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts.
The Owlz struck first with a run in the bottom of the second. Three hits in the inning highlighted by an RBI-single from Brandon White gave the Owlz the 1-0 lead.
The lead quickly disappeared. The Vibes offense responded with a run in the top of the third. Piñero ushered home Ernesto Martinez on an RBI-single to center. A single from Edwin Sanó and Nick Kahle reaching on a walk loaded the bases with two outs for Michael Wilson with a chance to add-on. Wilson struck out to end the inning, squashing the threat. Orem regained the lead in the bottom half on an RBI-single by Jeremiah Jackson, plating his 31st RBI of the season.
The Vibes answered the call again in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back walks by Jess Williams and Luís Avalo provided traffic on the bags for José Sibrian with nobody out. Sibrian ushered home Williams on a line drive to left, tying the game at 2. A throwing error by Owlz’ pitcher Darrien Williams two batters later pushed home Avalo. Piñero continued to stay hot with an RBI-double to left, plating Sibrian and the third run of the inning.
Piñero wouldn’t stop there. Piñero extended the Vibes lead to three on his second double of the night to left, ushering home Avila who singled earlier in the inning. The Vibes led 5-2 after six innings.
The Rocky Mountain Vibes make the third and final leg of their nine-game road trip tomorrow with the first game of a three-game series against the Grand Junction Rockies. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.
