Colorado Springs, Colo. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball program received 142 points to rank seventh overall in the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll, announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Colorado School of Mines is the preseason favorite after receiving 214 points, edging No. 2 Colorado Mesa University with 209 points.
The coaches' poll was voted on by all 16 head volleyball coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own institution.
UCCS closed the 2018 season owning a 12-15 overall record and the seventh best mark in the league with a 10-8 record. Head coach Chrissy Elder led the Mountain Lions to the RMAC Tournament for the fifth straight season before falling to No. 2 seed Dixie State University in the quarterfinal round, 3-1.
UCCS will return five of their six starters from last season and 12 letterwinners.
The 2019 season will begin Sept. 6-7 in Golden, Colo. at the Colorado School of Mines Oredigger Invitational. The Mountain Lions will return home Sept. 12-14 to host 12 matches at the 2019 Mountain Lion Invitational.
