Truex Jr. Qualifies 11th at Talladega

TALLADEGA, AL Martin Truex Jr. qualified 11th in the No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/5-hour ENERGY Toyota for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Truex lapped the 2.66-mile superspeedway in 49.635 seconds at 192.928 mph in the pole round of qualifying. He was 12th in the first and only other round (49.723, 192.587). The No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/5-hour ENERGY Toyota will line up on the inside of Row 6 for Sunday’s 188-lap, 500-mile race.

“You always want to make the second round and you hope you can do a little better (than the first round),” said Truex. “We thought we picked up some speed and we gained one spot, beat the 17 (Ricky Stenhouse Jr.).”

Sunday’s race will be the fifth of the 10-race NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and the middle race of the Round of 12.

Kurt Busch won the pole. He was followed by Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Aric Almirola, Chase Elliott, Jimmie Johnson, Alex Bowman, William Byron, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamilin, Truex, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
