ThunderWolves and Mountain Lions play to 1-1 draw

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 12, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against UCCS Friday on a brisk night at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Archie Jones (Fr., London, England) accounted for the lone goal of the game for the Pack in the 5th minute, taking a deflection and putting it back inside the right post for the early lead. Lewis Chambers (So., Bournemouth, UK) was credited with an assist on the play.

UCCS matched the goal less than two minutes later on a scramble in front of the net that went past the defense.

During the first half the ThunderWolves had two players get two shots. Jones recorded a pair of shots that were both on goal including his goal earlier in the half.

The Pack's Richard Panknin (So., Sassnitz, Germany) was instrumental on the defensive end in keeping UCCS scoreless in the period.

Through the first period UCCS held a 9-6 shot lead and earned three corner kicks to one for the Pack.

Midway through the second half the ThunderWolves had managed two shots on the UCCS defense.

On the other end, the Mountain Lions had five good looks at the net and each was saved by the Pack's backline.

At the end of regulation three Pack players recorded two shots.

UCCS held a 16-10 shot advantage and earned four corners to the Pack's two.

In the first overtime, UCCS got off the first shot in the period after taking the ball 1v1 with the Pack defense and sailed a shot high above the post.

On the other end the ThunderWolves took advantage of a free kick and pushed the ball deep in Mountain Lion territory and earned a corner kick.

The Pack got off a pair of shots while in UCCS half of the field on a header shot from Patrick Baeumle (Fr., Wehr, Germany) and one by Jones.

The scored went unchanged through the first overtime.

In the final extra period, both teams earned shot attempts and a second shot for the Thunderwolves off the foot of Chambers went wide of the net.

Midway through extra time the ThunderWolves attacked UCCS defense and created one real good look at the net by Brayden Ballman (So., Seattle, Wash.) and his shot went just above the crossbar to the excitement of the crowd.

The Mountain Lions earned a corner kick with two minutes left but the stingy Pack defense kept the visitors off the board.

Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (Jr., Henderson, Nev.) made six saves and faced eighteen shots by UCCS.

CSU-Pueblo (5-6-2, 2-5-2 RMAC) returns to the pitch Sunday and takes on Regis. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. from Gonzales Stadium.
