ANNAPOLIS, Md. Senior Lukas Texeira, sophomore Ethan Esval and classmate Zach Polen captured individual event titles this afternoon (March 30), as the Air Force men’s gymnastics team wrapped up competition at the 2019 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships in Annapolis. Overall, four Falcons competed in the individual event finals, combining for six USAG All-America accolades.
Texeira successfully defended his USAG title on the high bar, as he registered a score of 13.250 to win the eight-man final by 0.650 points. Esval scored a personal-best mark of 13.950 to capture his first USAG title on the still rings, while Polen posted a career-high total of 13.900 to win the parallel bars and claim his first USAG medal.
In addition to their respective victories on the still rings and parallel bars, Esval and Polen claimed a second USAG All-America award on those same two events this afternoon at Macdonough Hall. Esval garnered a score of 13.200 to take fourth on the parallel bars, while Polen tallied a 13.050 to finish sixth on the rings.
Fellow sophomore Frankie Valentin earned USAG All-America honors on the pommel horse after scoring a 12.900 to tie for fourth and also accounted for a seventh-place finish on the vault (13.800).
Air Force returns to action on Saturday, April 6, when it travels to Norman, Okla., to face the top-ranked Sooners, second-ranked Stanford and No. 11 California at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The meet is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. (CT), inside McCasland Field House.
