Rockies call up Peter Lambert to make pitching debut in Chicago

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of 22-year-old right-handed pitcher Peter Lambert from Triple-A Albuquerque and placed left-hander Mike Dunn on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 3) due to left a/c joint inflammation.

To make room for Lambert, the club transferred left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave to the 60-day injured list.

Lambert, who turned 22 on April 18, will make his Major League debut when he starts today at Chicago’s Wrigley Field in the series finale vs. the Cubs … a native of San Dimas, Calif., Lambert was selected by the Rockies in the second round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft … Lambert will be the third-youngest starting pitcher to make his debut in Colorado franchise history … across four-plus Minor League seasons over 97 starts, Lambert is 26-29 with a 3.92 ERA (508.0 IP, 221 ER) with 117 walks and 422 strikeouts … in 11 starts with Albuquerque this season, he is 2-2 with a 5.07 ERA (60.1 IP, 34 ER) with 16 walks and 51 strikeouts … he will wear number 23.

Dunn, 34, is 1-0 with a 5.19 ERA (17.1 IP, 10 ER) in 27 appearances this year … since 2010, he ranks third among all left-handers with 550 games … ranks 13th among all pitchers in appearances that span … his 554 career relief appearances are third among active left-handed pitchers, while his 34 wins as a reliever are second in that group … 11th among all active relievers in career games … since making his Major League debut in 2009, he is 34-26 with a 3.93 ERA (435.2 IP, 190 ER) in 554 appearances playing with the New York Yankees (2009), Atlanta Braves (2010), Miami Marlins (2011-2016) and Rockies (2017-19).

Musgrave, 27, was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 4 with a left elbow flexor strain, his second career stint on the injured list (also: July 14-24, 2018 with a right hip flexor strain) … made his first career Opening Day roster this year and has no record with a 3.60 ERA (10.0 IP, 4 ER), seven walks and 12 strikeouts across 10 relief appearances with the Rockies … since his debut on April 23 of last season vs. San Diego, is 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA (54.2 IP, 27 ER), 29 walks and 44 strikeouts in 45 appearances.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
