Rockies Announce Non-Roster Invites to 2019 Spring Training

DENVER — The Colorado Rockies announced today the club’s non-roster invitations to 2019 Major League Spring Training. Below is the current list of all 19 players, by position.

Of the 19 total non-roster invites, six are joining the Rockies from different organizations. That figure includes Chris Rabago and Mark Reynolds, who are returning to Colorado after previous stints in the Rockies organization. Chi Chi González (Texas), Peter Mooney (Miami), Brett Nicholas (San Diego), and Michael Saunders (Chicago-AL) all join the Rockies for the first time.

Of the 13 non-roster invites who spent the entire 2018 season in the Rockies organization, 12 were originally drafted by Colorado, with Evan Grills having been signed to a Minor League contract on Nov. 15, 2016. Chris Rabago, who was claimed by New York-AL off waivers from the Rockies last season, was originally drafted by Colorado, bringing the number of Rockies draft selections among non-roster invites to 13.

Chi Chi González (1.078) , Sam Howard (0.048), Brett Nicholas (0.153), Mark Reynolds (11.108) and Michael Saunders (7.080) have all appeared in the Major Leagues. Howard made his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2018, and Reynolds played 266 games for Colorado between 2016-17.

Brendan Rodgers (1), Colton Welker (4), Peter Lambert (5) and Tyler Nevin (10) are all ranked on Baseball America’s 2019 Colorado Rockies Top-10 Prospects list.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to have their first workout Feb. 13, with the first full-squad workout scheduled for Feb. 18.
