Rams’ Halley Havlicek named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading the Rams' defense to a pair of shutouts this past weekend, junior defender Halley Havlicek has been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Monday.

Havlicek is the third Ram to earn weekly recognition from the Mountain West in 2018, giving the Rams the conference's highest total number of individuals with weekly honors this season. Additionally, the Rams' three weekly conference honors are the second-most of any Mountain West school this season (Boise State – Raimee Sherle three times, Tara Fisher once).

The Spring Grove, Ill., native is the second Ram to be named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, joining junior goalkeeper Hunter Peifer, who was recognized on Aug. 20. Senior midfielder Beth Plentl accounts for CSU's remaining weekly conference honoree this season, earning offensive player of the week distinction on Sept. 17. Prior to 2018, CSU had one weekly conference honoree over its previous five seasons (Ally Murphy-Pauletto on Sept. 4, 2017).

Havlicek anchored the Colorado State defense to its first consecutive shutouts in conference matches in program history. Behind those shutouts, CSU defeated Air Force, 1-0, and drew with Colorado College, 0-0 (2OT), to finish off an undefeated weekend at home. The junior saw the field for all 200 possible minutes between the two matches.

Colorado State did not allow a shot on goal to Air Force on Friday, marking the first time in program history that the Rams have held an opponent without a shot on goal for the duration of a match. CSU followed that by holding Colorado College without a shot on goal for the first 58 minutes of Sunday's match, giving the Rams a streak of 148 minutes without a shot on goal against before the Tigers tallied their first of the match in the 59th minute.

The Colorado State women's soccer team travels to California for a pair of Mountain West matches next weekend. The Rams play at San Jose State Spartans at 7:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. PT on Friday and face the Fresno State Bulldogs at 1 p.m. MT/Noon PT on Sunday.
