COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Will Mallory and Keller Mochel were named Players of the Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in recognition of their efforts while leading the Colorado College men’s soccer team to a pair of crucial victories last week.
Mallory earned the offensive award for the first time in his career while Mochel received the defensive honor for the second time this season.
Mallory, who hails from Atlanta, factored in both game-winning goals to help the Tigers claim sole possession of second place in the conference table.
During Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the University of Dallas, the sophomore midfielder fired a shot from the middle of the box that hit the crossbar and went inches over the goal line.
On Friday night, Mallory’s corner kick set up Keenan Amer’s game winner in the 11th minute as CC rolled to a 4-0 win against Austin College.
Mallory now has factored in four game-winning goals this year, scoring a pair and setting up two others. He leads the team with two game winners, the first of which was the 1-0 win at the University of Dallas on Sept. 9.
In the defensive third, Mochel stopped all six shots he faced during the two games, including four in Sunday’s shutout of the Crusaders.
Mochel recorded his conference-leading eighth and ninth clean sheets of the campaign, which ran his career total to 12. He also lowered his goals-against average to 0.75 and improved his saves percentage to 0.796.
The native of Carpinteria, Calif., extended his scoreless streak to nearly 454 minutes.
Mochel’s five consecutive shutouts are the most for the program since 2015 when Colorado College did not allow a goal during the final five games of the regular season and the semifinal match of the SCAC championship at Stewart Field.
The Tigers play their final SCAC road games of the season this week at Texas Lutheran University on Friday, Oct. 12, and Southwestern University on Sunday, Oct. 14.
