ATLANTA—Colorado senior guard Kennedy Leonard was one of 50 women's basketball players named to the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Monday.
Leonard is one of nine Pac-12 Conference players on the watch list for Player of the Year. The Atlantic Coast Conference led the list with 11 players.
"These 50 talented candidates are the ones to watch, and the competition for the 2019 Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy will heat up as more players enter the competition throughout the season," said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. "We are excited to watch these women play as they have another great year of college basketball ahead of them."
Leonard opened the season with 30 points in Colorado's 77-69 win over Northern Colorado. She tied a career-high with 15 free-throws and recorded six steals. Leonard has seven career double-doubles and is has career averages of 14.9 points, 5.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game.
This is the second national award watch list for Leonard this season. She was selected to the Lieberman Award watch list, for the nation's best point guard, on Oct. 22.
The Citizen Naismith midseason team will be narrowed down to 30 names in February. 10 semifinalists will be announced in March and the four finalists will be selected on March 22. The winner will be announced on April 6.
Colorado returns to action against Colorado State at the CU Events Center on Wednesday.
