Kyle Freeland optioned Triple A

DENVER The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated left-handed pitcher Chris Rusin from the 10-day injured list (mid-back strain) and have recalled right-handed pitcher Jesus Tinoco from Triple-A Albuquerque. Additionally, the Rockies have optioned outfielder Yonathan Daza and left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland to Triple-A.

Rusin, 32, will be on the active roster for the first time this season … was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 27 (retroactive to March 25) with a mid-back strain … has made eight rehab appearances (including one start) across Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (13.1 IP, 8 ER), five walks and 11 strikeouts… across parts of four seasons with the Rockies, is 16-19 with two saves, a 4.43 ERA (355.2 IP, 175 ER), 109 walks and 273 strikeouts in 162 games with 29 starts… drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the Detroit, Mich., native was selected off waivers from the Cubs on Sept. 27, 2014… has gone 20-28 with two saves, a 4.55 ERA (464.1 IP, 235 ER), 149 walks and 338 strikeouts across parts of seven seasons with Chicago-NL (2012-14) and Colorado (2015-18).

Tinoco, 24, will be on the active roster for the first time in his career … in 19 relief appearances for Albuquerque this season, has gone 3-1 with a 5.04 ERA (25.0 IP, 14 ER), 11 walks and 19 strikeouts… has attended Major League Spring Training twice with the Rockies… allowed one run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts across 5.2 innings in six appearances last Spring Training… was originally signed by Toronto as a non-drafted international free agent on Sept. 22, 2011… the native of San Antonio de Maturin, Venezuela, was acquired by the Rockies from Toronto along with right-handers Miguel Castro and Jeff Hoffman as well as infielder Jose Reyes in exchange for right-hander LaTroy Hawkins and infielder Troy Tulowitzki on July 28, 2015… across parts of eight seasons in the Toronto (2012-15) and Colorado (2015-19) organizations, is 35-53 with a 4.76 ERA (673.0 IP, 356 ER), 211 walks and 550 strikeouts… he will wear #32.

Daza, 25, has made three stints on the active roster in his first Major League season… has combined to go 1-for-18 with one run, one walk and five strikeouts across six games with five starts… made his Major League debut on April 9 vs. Atlanta, starting in right field and batting leadoff… recorded his first Major League hit on Monday, and scored his first run… with Albuquerque, has batted .366 (63-for-172) with 15 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 20 RBI, 12 walks and eight stolen bases in 38 games… the native of Maracay, Venezuela, was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted international free agent on Oct. 20, 2010.

Freeland, 26, has gone 2-6 with a 7.13 ERA (59.1 IP, 47 ER), 25 walks and 49 strikeouts in 12 starts for the Rockies this season… is being optioned to Triple-A for the first time in his career since his Major League debut on April 7, 2017 vs. Los Angeles-NL… finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting last season after going 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA (202.1 IP, 64 ER), becoming the second Rockies pitcher to finish in the top five in Cy Young Award voting… across parts of three seasons with the Rockies, the Denver native has gone 30-24 with a 3.92 ERA (417.2 IP, 182 ER) with 158 walks and 329 strikeouts in 73 starts and five relief appearances.
