Hughes & McCann earn top 10 finishes at Mustang Intercollegiate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (October 2, 2018) – Fraser Hughes and Nathan McCann both earned top 10 finishes, while Colorado state University-Pueblo Men's Golf shared 11th place in the Mustang Intercollegiate at the UNM South Golf Course.

The ThunderWolves collectively shot a 912 (+48), including a +18 (306) on Tuesday. CSU-Pueblo finished ninth on day one after 36 holes.

Hughes (Sr., Newton Stewart, Scotland, UK) finished in a tie for sixth. He shot a +3 (219) over the 36 holes. Hughes carded a +6 (78) on day two. He was the only Pack golfer to play under par with a -2 (70) in round one and a -1 (71) in round two.

McCann (So., Lurgan Armagh, Ireland) ranked 10th with a +5 (221). He was the Pack's best golfer Tuesday, shooting a +1 (73). McCann improved on his first two rounds where he shot a +2 (74). Hughes and McCann both shot -4 on par fives, third-best in the tournament.

Senior Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) vaulted up eight spots on day two to 43rd place with a +15 (231). Carlsen carded a +4 (76) on Tuesday. He improved his score by one stroke each round.

Fellow senior Taylor Rodriguez (Pueblo, Colo.) rounded out the scoring for the Pack. Rodriguez played his best round of the tournament Tuesday with a +7 (79). He finished the tournament in 89th place with a +26 (242).

Competing in his first tournament with the Pack Matthew McCulloch (Jr., Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK) placed 95th. McCulloch shot a +10 (82) Tuesday.

Sanjay Nithiyalingam (Fr., Perterborough, Cambridgeshire, England, UK) and Austin Shanks (Sr., Wichita, Kan.) both played as individuals. Shanks placed 75th. He shot a +6 (78) on day two. Nithiyalingam carded a +4 (76) on day two to match Rodriguez with an 85th place finish.

The ThunderWolves will look to make a statement at the Fall RMAC preview next Monday and Tuesday. This tournament will be held Oct. 8-9 at the Walnut Creek Golf Course in Denver, Colo.
