H.S. Football: Pine Creek, Palmer Ridge take state crown

PUEBLO, Colo. - Two high school football titans, Palmer Ridge and Pine Creek, are back on the top of the state.

On Saturday, #1 Pine Creek defeated #2 Broomfield in the 4A state title game 34-3, while #4 Palmer Ridge stifled #2 Pueblo West 35-13 to once again claim the 3A crown.

The Pine Creek Eagles dominated the second half of play at Empower Field, thanks to the legs of senior quarterback Gavin Herberg. Herberg ran eight times for 131 yards and a touchdown, including a 52-yard scamper in the first quarter that set up the opening score of the game.

Pine Creek's David Moore III finished Saturday's game with 112 yards and two touchdowns. He wraps up his high school career with 7,624 yards, good for third in Colorado all-time rushing history.

At the CSU-Pueblo Thunderbowl, Palmer Ridge Quarterback Luke McAllister threw for four touchdowns in a dominating effort over Pueblo South. McAllister finished 8-for-17, and took home the game's Most Outstanding Player award.
