Early Wednesday the Rocky Mountain Vibes jumped into uniform for the first time and were welcomed to their new home in Colorado Springs.
The morning opened with a brunch as the Vibes announces all 28 members of the team. The roster features players for all over the world including Australia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico to name a few.
Joe Gray, a second round draft pick from Mississippi, chose to go pro over a scholarship opportunity at Ole Miss University. He is now looking forward to exploring Colorado Springs.
Gray said, "It is absolutely beautiful here. I was literally walking out of the hotel and I just looked at the mountains and I almost passed out. It is crazy."
Gray went on to talk about how the dry climate has been difficult to adjust to but he is just excited to be playing ball and to get this season started.
"Just to help myself get better, especially in my career," Gray said. "But also to get my team to get themselves better too and win a championship here. And also learn just how to be ourselves in a very very hard game."
Paxton Schultz, a right handed pitcher for the Vibes, has had a week unlike others on the team. Not only did he move to a new city, start his professional career, but he and his girlfriend Kenzie also got engaged.
"I don't know [if any week can top this]. Maybe getting called to the big leagues one day but that would be it," Schultz said.
Schultz is heading to his hometown next week for the Vibes season opener in Orem, Utah.
"The first road series I guess is a home opener for me," Schultz said. "The field where I played college at, is the same field we are going to be playing at so definitely home field advantage for me!"
The Vibes will start their season on the road Friday June 14, but will come home next week Friday June 21, to open their first home game in UC Health Park Stadium.
