COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Discovery Canyon Thunder outlasted an explosive Palmer Ridge football team Thursday from District 20 Stadium, pounding the ball to a 56-49 victory to win the 3A Central league title.
Discovery Canyon overcame a 21-7 second quarter deficit thanks to a pair of turnovers from the Bears. The Thunder's Marshall Pike scored four touchdowns on the day, including three in the first half. DCC held a 35-28 advantage at halftime and never surrendered the league the remainder of the game.
Pike's four touchdowns were only matched by Anthony Costanzo's four touchdown receptions for Palmer Ridge. Pike rumbled for a 58-yard score late in the 4th quarter to seal the win and the first league championship for the Thunder since 2016.
Discovery Canyon advances to 9-1 on the season, while Palmer Ridge falls to 8-2. Both teams will await their CHSAA 3A postseason seeding in the week ahead.
