Dahl, and Pack lights out in game 2 against Cougars

PUEBLO, Colo. Josh Dahl (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) led Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball to a 14-0 win in game two of their doubleheader against Colorado Christian University. The Pack lost game one 13-7 Saturday at Rawlings Field.

Dahl threw a complete game shutout in game two. He allowed six hits and two walks over his seven innings. Dahl struck out a season-high 13 batters to improve to 4-2. This was Dahl's third consecutive complete game.

Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished 3-for-7 between the two games. Popham drove in three runs and scored twice.

The Pack committed six errors in the first game that allowed the Cougars to roll to a 13-7. Reggie Williams (Fr., Castle Rock, Colo.) drove in three runs in the series opener.

In game two, the Cougars had their biggest threat in the first inning. Back-to-back singles had the Cougars in business in the top of the frame. After a Dahl strikeout, Christian singled to center. Connor Hughes (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) gunned down the lead run at home to keep the Cougars scoreless.

They Cougars loaded the bases, but Dahl escaped the jam in the first. In the Pack's half of the opening frame, Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Adler scored on a Popham groundout that gave the Pack a 1-0 lead.

The Pack added three more runs in the third. Hughes had a RBI groundout and Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) knocked in Kodee Martin (Jr., Platte County, Mo.) to make it 4-0.

Three more runs came across in the third. Williams and Jesse Holguin (Fr., Colton, Calif.) each had RBI singles and Hughes drove in another run to make it 7-0.

The Pack continued to pour it on with one in the fourth. The ThunderWolves scored four more runs in the fifth.

Robbie Espinosa (Sr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) clubbed a double to bring in Holguin. Hughes scored on an Adler groundout. Popham cracked another double that drove in Espinosa. Stone Romero (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) followed with a double of his own to stake the Pack to a 12-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Pack scored two runs on an error. Dahl struck out six of the last seven batters he faced to complete the shutout.

The Pack now stands 11-12 on the season. They hold a 6-4 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Colorado Christian stands 7-15 (2-8 RMAC).

CSU-Pueblo will host the Cougars in another doubleheader Sunday. First pitch of the nine-inning game one will start at 12 p.m.
