Colorado Springs, Colo. Colorado college football coaches gathered on Thursday at the Sports Corp Annual College Football Kickoff Luncheon in Colorado Springs. Air Force head coach, Troy Calhoun, joined defensive coordinators Donnell Leomiti from CSU-Pueblo and John Jancek from Colorado State.
CSU-Pueblo senior running back, Austin Micci, also came to the luncheon. As he is getting ready for the season to begin he also is preparing to step up as a team leader.
“This year is a little bit different I mean it is my last season so I have to make the best of it," Micci said. "And I’m trying to bring those guys, those younger guys, along with me. They haven’t been in the program for a very long, they don’t really know the mindset and the tradition we have here. Just trying to be a leader by example and do everything I can this year for the team.”
The Coronado alum has big shoes to fill but he still has a few weeks to go before the season begins.
Calhoun and the Air Force Falcons have been leading the nation in APR score and among schools like Duke and Clemson. Calhoun and his team are ready to get back to work.
"Absolutely an amazing accomplishment," Calhoun said. "Anytime you're in the top 10 in the country in APR, especially the challenges of the United States Air Force Academy. When it comes to the standard, the retention everything that's involved that way. Probably the most extraordinary accomplishment probably in the history of our program of any kind to be able to do that."
The colleges will begin practices the first week of August.
