Colorado College Women's Basketball: Gertz, Torbet Lead Tigers Past JWU

DENVER – Johnson & Wales utilized a 37-19 advantage on the glass to record a 74-66 victory over the Colorado College women’s basketball team on Tuesday night.
Junior guard Casey Torbet scored a team-high 13 points for the Tigers, who slipped to 2-5 on the year.
Freshman winger McKenzee Gertz added 11 points, while sophomore point guard Jordan Meltzer came off the bench to score nine.
Allison Butler finished with a game-high 24 points for the Wildcats, who improved to 2-1o and salvaged a split in the season series.
Andromeda Sales scored 23 points, while Brianna Aluya nearly recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
After making just two of nine three-point attempts during the first three quarters, JWU went 5-for-5 from behind the arc during the final 10 minutes to complete its comeback.
The Wildcats also made seven of nine free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. For the game, Johnson & Wales made 15 of 21 attempts from the charity stripe while CC was 10-of-12.
Colorado College shot better than 50 percent from the field during the first half when it held a 32-15 lead with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter.
Johnson & Wales cut its deficit to 12 points after 20 minutes and then utilized a big third quarter to take its first lead of the game five seconds into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers head to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for the Whitworth Holiday Classic presented by Red Lion River. CC faces the host Pirates on Friday at 6 p.m. PT and then No. 9 Whitman College on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT.
