FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Sophomore guard Lore Devos registered a near triple-double to headline a trio of key individual efforts in an 84-79 win for the Colorado State women's basketball team on Friday afternoon from Moby Arena.
Devos poured in 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting (.600), and filled up the rest of the stat sheet with 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Junior guard Mollie Mounsey matched her 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting (5-for-11 threes) and corralled seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Grace Colaivalu tallied 17 points on 5-for-6 (.833) shooting from the floor and 7-for-7 shooting from the foul line.
Colorado State (5-5) found itself down by eight at 11-3 within the first four minutes of the game, as Denver's (7-6) Lauren Loven opened the game with a trio of three-point baskets over that stretch. The Rams responded with three-pointers from Mounsey and senior forward Tatum Neubert to cut the deficit to two halfway through the opening period. The Rams continued to whittle away the DU lead, cutting it to one a couple of minutes later before taking a 20-19 lead to the second quarter.
Denver retook the upper hand with a 28-point second quarter, and held on to that advantage until the 1:20 mark of the third, when a Devos layup put the Rams up, 62-21. CSU never trailed for the remainder of the game, building its lead as large as nine points before the final result.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"Thanks to everyone for coming. What a great turnout this was today. A Noon start, and our crowd was really energetic from the get-go. This was a good basketball game for our team. We needed this, mainly to play well on the offensive end. I'm extremely proud of the effort, because DU has got a lot of bullets and they score it really, really well. For us to throw 84 on that board today…that should give us some confidence moving forward."
