Colorado Rockies Acquire Left-handed Pitcher Phillip Diehl from Yankees in exchange for outfielder Mike Tauchman

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have acquired Minor League left-handed pitcher Phillip Diehl from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Mike Tauchman.

• Diehl, 24, split his 2018 season between High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton, combining to go 2-3 with 2.51 ERA (75.1 IP, 21 ER), 23 walks and 108 strikeouts over 39 appearances in relief … a non-roster invitee to Yankees Major League Spring Training, Diehl has made nine appearances for the Yankees and has allowed five runs on 11 hits with four walks and 17 strikeouts over 10.0 innings of work … originally drafted the Yankees in the 27th round in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Louisiana Tech University (also attended University of Evansville), the Cincinnati, Ohio, native is 16-6 with a 2.78 ERA (194.1 IP, 60 ER), 55 walks and 250 strikeouts across three Minor League seasons.

• Tauchman, 28, made two stints with the Rockies in 2018 and batted .094 (3-for-32) with five runs, one double and four walks in 21 games … has batted .196 (9-for-46) with seven runs, four doubles, eight RBI, nine walks and 13 strikeouts over 24 games this Spring …the Palatine, Ill., native made his Major League debut with the Rockies on June 27, 2017 at San Francisco and batted .153 (9-for-59) with seven runs, one double, one triple, two RBI, nine walks, 25 strikeouts and two stolen bases in 52 games across parts of two seasons with Colorado.
