ENGLEWOOD, Colo. The Denver Broncos signed free-agent offensive lineman Jake Brendel and cornerback Trey Johnson—tryout participants in the Broncos’ voluntary mini camp this week—and released cornerback Craig Mager, it was announced on Thursday.
Brendel (6-4, 299 pounds) is a fourth-year player from UCLA who has appeared in 21 regular-season games (3 starts) and one postseason contest during his NFL career with Miami (2016-18). He started three games (2 at LG; 1 at C) for the Dolphins in 2018.
Brendel, who entered the NFL as a college free agent with Dallas on May 6, 2016, finished his collegiate career as the Bruins’ all-time leader in games started (52). He was born on Sept. 10, 1992.
Johnson (5-11, 170 pounds) is a second-year player from Villanova University who spent his rookie season with Pittsburgh on injured reserve after joining the team as a college free agent on May 3, 2018. He played 46 games for the Wildcats, contributing 123 solo (83 solo), four interceptions (41 yds.) and 31 passes defensed during his collegiate career.
